Tettacotta pots: make a statement for your entryway

12 months ago, I found these oversized terracotta pots off Facebook marketplace for $30 each (can you believe it?) I was OBSESSED. For a year, they sat unused in our front yard awaiting their opportunity to shine.

Last week we finished the decking on our front veranda and finally installed these striking terracotta pots!

Things to think about when placing your pots:

  • Be mindful that once your pots are full they’re very heavy, so double check you have the right spot. If you aren’t 100% sure of where you want your pots to live, try a pot caddy so you can wheel your pots around whenever you like.

  • Fill the pots with a well-draining potting mix. Adjust the pots until they are level and stable, leaving a small gap at the top to prevent overflow when watering.

  • Plant your pots to create a welcoming entrance to your home.

Now… what to plant?

I planted two cuttings in my pots in hopes that they’ll take off over the next year and start to look lush and green:

  • Trailing rosemary: this fragrant herb will spill over the edge of the terracotta pot and in springtime will have a host of vibrant blue flowers.

  • Hydrangea: I took a cutting for each pot from a friend’s house. This is a great way to get plants for free - it just takes a little time for them to grow.

Whatever plants you choose to grow, consider how much sunshine, water and space your plants will have. I also added an Olla into each pot to ensure that have enough water, especially in summer.

Where to buy terracotta pots?

  • Facebook Marketplace! If I could shout this from the rooftop I would. I found my pots for a great price on Marketplace but unfortunately, they may not always have what you’re looking for.

  • Local nurseries can have a great selection of pots of all shapes and sizes and are worth checking out.

  • Amazon: shopping online for large scale pots can be a bit tricky but if you’re happy to shop online make sure you pay close attention to the measurements & the reviews the Terracotta Everett Pot or the Terracotta Luna Pot could be good options.

By adding terracotta pots next to your front door, you can instantly elevate the curb appeal of your home. They provide a warm and inviting entrance and showcase your personal style.
