GFRC Shopping List: Everything You Need to Get Started

If you're planning a GFRC (Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete) project, then you’re on track to create a stunning and durable concrete element that will elevate any space. When it comes to GFRC projects having the right materials is essential. Our GFRC Project Shopping List will ensure you have what you need to bring your vision to life.

For the formwork:

  • 18mm white melamine sheets – ideal for a perfectly smooth finish

  • Chipboard screws

  • Power drills

  • Circular saw/ track saw (joinery cutting blade will work on melamine best)

  • Clear silicon (including bevelled edge scrapping tool, this is important unless you want a rounded edge to your tops)

  • Tape measure and pencil

For Mixing:

  • 2x 20L plastic buckets: you don’t need anything fancy, here’s a recommendation

  • 4 - 6 small bowls or buckets. More buckets the merrier! If you need to make more than 1 pour for larger pieces, then you’ll need plenty of buckets to have everything measured out and ready to go

  • 2x Mixing tubs: These tubs are ideal due their size and handles for a controlled pour, you can pick one up from Bunnings

  • A digital kitchen scale that measures at least 15kg, everything needs to be measured in grams for accuracy, including the water! Here’s a recommendation

  • Dust mask or particle respirator

  • Safety glasses

  • Hammer or rubber mallet: for tapping out those air bubbles when pouring.

  • A paddle drill including a mortar mixing attachment, here’s a recommendation

For finishing

  • A wet polishing grinder

  • Wet diamond polishing pads, good money spent on these diamond pads will ensure you give your work the finish it deserves: here’s a recommendation

  • Concrete sealer of choice
